The picture gives it away! Chosen by vote of the members at the January meeting Hounds for Heroes is both a local (Petersfield) and a military charity. It should be fairly obvious what they get up to but for the full story click here.

UPDATE JUNE 1 2013

OVERLORD 2013 is now a recent memory. A couple of days after the show closed we were delighted to receive this from Hounds for Heroes:

Just to let you know that we raised £1, 331.32 over the weekend in merchandise and donations, we are so thrilled.

Thank you so much for all your support, your team were so helpful and the visitors incredibly generous.

Best wishes,

So well done to all our generous OVERLORD visitors, the club will be adding to the fund with part of the surplus we were lucky enough to make this year. For us it has been a great experience to play host to such a popular and worthwhile local military charity. THANK YOU to all who helped!

How did the Victorian equivalent of our club ever manage to keep the members abreast of what was happening? Continue reading »

Emsworth, West Sussex was sealed off by the military today, Wednesday 17 October 2012 for approximately 2 hours. The streets leading to Emsworth Square were blocked by Army Landrovers while Starstreak equipped Alvis Stormers prowled with the tacit approval of the constabulary. Civilians were kept behind barriers. Continue reading »

As the club members are scattered around the Solent area can I urge you all to approach your local Royal British Legion Branch and volunteer the services of yourself and your vehicle for the Saturdays leading up to November 11th? I have done it and will be on Hayling from 27th October, other areas are, as yet, unclaimed. The presence of a military vehicle makes the collectors stand out from the crowd and gives a physical reminder of who is collecting and why. All that is required is that you turn up and look pretty, something I am exceedingly good at.

I am not doing this entirely altruistically, although I wholeheartedly support the RBL and all they have done for the last 90 years, I will be getting something back – more tales from ex-service people about what they did and what my type of vehicle did, what it means to them. So, if sitting in the autumn sunshine, sipping a brew from your thermos and chatting to some very interesting people appeals – get in touch with your local RBL and help their appeal
