Wickham 2010

No doubt you have noticed it has been a touch cold recently; that has probably been the reason why Wickham Square’s Boxing Day vehicle meet seemed to be well down on numbers this year

Certainly the sub-zero temperatures caused the failure of the batteries in the vehicles that were blocking my Ferret in the barn so I went by boring old car to view the proceedings as did many who would otherwise have driven something interesting to exhibit. Flying the flag and sporting A3 sized enlargements of the new brochure were Matt, Nikki and Brad with Project X, Colin with his 101 and Gary with one of his modern bikes – get the Matchless finished mate!

Not only was exhibitor attendance down, though tractor numbers  seemed to be increased this year, but there seemed to be fewer public looking at the displays. There were a couple of non-SOE military vehicles, a jeep and aVW181, so they had a webwright’s business card left on the driver’s seat as neither vehicle seemed to have anyone in attendance.

The club members and friends turned out as normal so there were plenty of conversations and several plans hatched for the forthcoming year – watch this blog!

The cold not only affected my vehicle batteries but those in my “proper” cameras as well so the few pictures I did take of the limited number of exhibits can be found here.  How cold? I got -6 degrees C on my car outside temperature display but the guy who brings a Fordson Major each year told me he had seen -9 degrees when delivering papers (at 02:00 !) in Liss.

Let’s hope this is a one off cold snap and not becoming a trend …
