There are a lot of images which are unfamiliar – many publications that use photos to illustrate the Normandy Landings seem to use the same dozen or so well known photos – there is plenty of fresh material here with informative captions. Confusingly some images are free for non-commercial use and some require purchase hence the use of the picture above (free, non- commercial, attribution – like a creative commons licence) but the picture of an army photographer and his kit during Operation Fabius (Hayling Island mock landings) would cost £7.50
